S.M.S. BRINERS, INC.
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
t
S.M.S. Briners , Inc. , 17750 East Highway 4, Stockton CA 95206,
operates a vegetable brining facility.
Brine and washwater was previously discharged to North Little
Johns Creek. Complaints from downstream users regarding high
salt content in the receiving waters and complaints from neigh-
boring residents regarding odors being generated at the facility
resulted in a Clean-up and Abatement Order being issued.
The facility presently has four sump pumps that discharge into
one plastic lined evaporation pond equipped with surface aerators
for odor control and a spray nozzle system to enhance evaporation.
Another plastic lined pond is available for excess waste and rainy
season storage. i
Soils in the area are classified as recent alluvium and Victor
formation and groundwater occurs at 50 feet (15. 2 m) below the
surface.
The proposed requirements prohibit the discharge of waste to sur-
face and ground waters.
FOM/gs 12/29/78
 a
