SMS Briners Field Work Page 3 of 3
Engineers(LSCE)on approving a work plan and issuing a permit for drilling at the SMS Briners site. I saw
a portion of an email in which you recognized that Golder would be doing additional field work, but that
LSCE's permit does not include Golder's work. I thought I'd touch base to fill you in on our plans.
We will be advancing three CPT borings to collect data for geotechnical analysis. We will also drill 5
borings via convential methods to collect samples for environmental analysis (chloride concentrations).
This data will be used for modeling the vadose zone under the ponds and assist in developing closure plan
alternatives. When I called SJCEHD(before I was given your name as the site contact), I was told Golder
will need to develop a work plan because of the environmental analysis.
I have been developing such a plan, and have left a message for Howard Hold to inform him of our
proposed work so we may expedite the planning and permitting process. Once I have touched base with
him, I will submit the work plan to you for review. Would you please confirm that this is the correct
approach? I will also work with the County's"counter" to get permits for the CPT borings.
Please call me at the number below if you need.
