V. LANDOWNER INTERVIEWS
A. Site usage
The site is comprised of two parcels; (1) a 61 acre parcel (agricultural and dairy
i
area) formerly owned by Mr. Louis Furtado; and (2) a 1 acre parcel -(stockpiled fill area)
formerly owned by Mr. J. Toste, Jr.
Mr. Louis Furtado reported that the 61 acre parcel made up the northern portion
' of an approximately 145-acre dairy farm that was purchased by the Furtado family In 1935.
f
The dairy farm operated from 1935 until 1968 when the cows and farm equipment were
sold. The Interstate 205 right-of-way was created In 1968, establishing the present
southeast boundary of the site. In 1985, the site was sold to the Dividend' Development
Corporation along with the remainder of the original dairy farm south of 1-205,
Mr„Furtado stated that one, approximately 1400 gallon empty underground gasoline
storage tank that was used for fueling; farm equipment is In place In the dairy area. One
aboveground waste oil tank was removed from the dairy ranch area. An operating 80-
foot deep :well In the dairy area provides domestle water for the 2 residential structures
located there. The unlined ditch on the north side of the site conveys irrigation runoff
water from lands to the east to disposal in the San Joaquin River,
Until about 1969, barley, corn and alfalfa were grown in the agricultural area.
These crops were fertilized with manure; no chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides
were used or stored on the property.
From about 1969 to 1985, the 61 acre parcel was leased to Mr. Joe Madurga.
Mr. Furtado stated that Mr. Madurga has grown alfalfa and corn. Mr. Madurga's phone
number is no longer in service and he could not be contacted.
R:604.09N - 6 - 6/1/89
