• split spoon sampler containing brass tubes All sampling equipment was -
decontaminated before use by using a triple rinse procedure described below
Water and detergent wash,
• Water rinse,
* Deionized water, final rinse
Samples tubes used to collect soil samples were provided by the state certified
analytical lab. Brass sample tubes were sealed using aluminum foil, capped, taped,
sealed, labelled and placed m individual zap-lock bags The samples were then
placed in coolers containing frozen blue ice for transport under chain-of-custody
procedures to the Canonie Environmental Services Laboratory of Stockton at the
end of the working day. One sample (HA-2B) was collected on March 28, 1991. under
the same methods as described above but was transported under chain-of-custody to
BACE Analytical and Field Services of Windsor for analysis
the samples were analyzed for the following
• Total Volatile Hydrocarbons (TPH-gasoline, LUFT Method),
• Total Extractable Hydrocarbons (TPH-diesel, LUFr Method),
• BTEX (EPA 8020)
One soil sample from each boring, well and piezometer location was analyzed
Drill cuttings from placement of the boring were stored on-site separately from, soils
removed from the excavation in January 1990 Decontamination water has been
placed in sealed drums and left on-site until appropriate remediation is initiated
4.0 RESULTS OF SOIL AND GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATION
4.1 Soil Analytical Results
The analytical results of the soil are presented in Table 2 Copies of the analytical
data sheets are provided in Appendix E. The locations of these samples and the soil
results are shown in Figure 4
All soil samples were analyzed for the presence of TPH as diesel, gas and BTEX Two
of the six (NIW-1, B-1) soil samples were reported as nondetectable hydrocarbons for
TPH as gas, TPH as diesel and BTEX Analysis of the soil samples obtained at the
locations of the piezometers (P-1 and P-2) reported low levels of hydrocarbons
Hydrocarbons as diesel was reported at 16 mg/Kg in soil sample P-1 and all other
analyses as N D Hydrocarbons as gas were reported at a level of 14 mg/Kg m soil
sample P-2 and all other analyses as N D The samples obtained from the central
location of the tank pit showed hydrocarbon as diesel of 50 mg/Kg in HA-1 and 680
8
BRU[VSIIVG ASSOCIATES, INC 40®`
P
