Remedial Action Plan Addendum January 14 1993
Southland Store No. 20304, 455 Grant Line Rd., Tracy, CA g
3.0 IMPLEMENTING REMEDIAL ACTION
Implementation of Phase I Is described in the sections below. Implementation of Phase II will be
proposed after evaluation of the data obtained from the soil vapor extraction and reinjection testing
conducted during Phase I.
3.1 System Design
System design includes developing equipment specifications, selecting equipment vendors,
procuring equipment, preparing engineering drawings necessary for securing installation bids, and
V
obtaining the required permits.
Figure 5 illustrates the proposed groundwater extraction/treatment system. Groundwater will be
pumped from the proposed extraction well through a closed system of underground pipes into a
... skid-mounted, containerized treatment module. This module includes:
■ A surface-mounted centrifugal groundwater extraction pump;
A solids filtration unit;
Two liquid-phase granular activated carbon (GAC) units in series;
' ■ Electrical distribution equipment;
■ System controls;
. Instrumentation;
■ A telemetry system for remote monitoring;
Lighting; and
Passive ventilation.
The GAC units will be leased to provide flexibility in accommodating system operating parameter
changes. Each GAC unit will contain 1,000 pounds Obs) of carbon.
The contaminants in the extracted groundwater will be removed by the adsorption process within the
GAC units. The frequency of GAC unit carbon replacement will depend on the process flow rate and
hydrocarbon concentrations in the extracted groundwater. Analysis of the data gathered from the
limited aquifer tests conducted by Groundwater Technology on November 25, 1992, indicates that
maximum extraction flow rates could range from 20 to 40 gpm. Analytical results for TPH-G
concentrations in samples collected during the aquifer tests allowed us to estimate initial
contaminant mass loading rates that the GAC units are likely to sustain. The reported TPH-G
. concentrations In the samples collected from MW-1 and MW-8 during the aquifer tests were 170
R3263AZ.SLL
* GROUNDWATER
LILL]TECHNOLOGY,INC.
