Mr. Steven Sasson
November 8, 1995
Page 2 I
We do not agree that additional investigation and/or excavation is necessary to demonstrate that
groundwater quality at the site is no longer being impacted by tank leakage. The existing monitoring
well network, with one well located in the consistently downgradient direction and within ten feet of the
former tank location, and three additional monitoring wells located in the downgradient direction and
within 80 feet of the former tank location, seems more than sufficient to characterize the distribution of
gasoline hydrocarbons at the site. The Water Quality Control Board has closed many of our UST sites k'
with less site characterization than has been performed at the Tracy site.
PG&E proposes to perform two additional quarters of groundwater monitoring, after which together we
can review the data and consider possible actions that would lead to rapid site closure. I will be out of
the office from November 15 to December 8. I look forward to discussing this site with you when I
return.
Sincerely, }
*ZA
Eric Johnson, REA
Environmental Specialist
