ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT, INC.
January 3, 2003
Project C81-2375 Grant
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
304 East Weber, Third Floor
Stockton, CA 95202
Re: Work Plan
Shell Branded Service Station
2375 Grant Line Road
Tracy, CA 95376
Equilon Enterprises LLC dba Shell Oil Products LIS (Shell) has initiated a groundwater
monitoring program throughout California known as GRASP (GRoundwater ASsessment
Program). The purpose of the program is'to provide long term monitoring for the presence
nHi
of petroleum hydrocarbons,in groundwater beneath selected service station sites. No known
releases have occurred at these sites nor are any of them an active LUFT case.
The service station located at 2375 Grant Line Road in Tracy has been designated by Shell as
a participant in this program (Figure 1). The.program requires four (4) groundwater
monitoring wells to be installed on the service station property and periodically monitored
(Figure 2). Ori behalf of Shell, KHM Environmental Management, Inc. (KHM) will manage
the installation of these wells, and the periodic groundwater sampling events that will follow
(typically quarterly).
`Four.borings will be advanced at the site using hollow-stem auger drilling equipment. Each
boring will be logged by a staff geologist, and soil samples will be collected from selected
intervals for laboratory analysis. Laboratory analysis include total petroleum hydrocarbons
as gasoline (TPH-G); total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-D); benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX); and the five fuel oxygenates methyl tert-butyl
ether (MTBE), diisopropyl ether (DIPS), ethyl-t-butyl ether (ETBE), tert-amyl methyl
ether (TAME), and tert-butanol (TBA).
The'.borings.will be-terminatedat.a depth that is approximately 10 feet below the depth at
which groundwater is first encountered (which is anticipated to be at approximately 10 feet
4
bgs). Monitoring wells will be installed in' the borings and will be constructed with
Schedule 40, polyvinyl chloride casing and screen. Wells will be screened over a 20-foot
interval, and #2/12 sand will be used for the filter pack. A 1-foot bentonite seal will be
6284 SAN IGNACIO AVENUE,SUITE E SAN JOSE,-CALIFORNIA • 95119 • PHONE:(408)224-4724 FAX:(408)224-4518
REDMOND,WASHINGTON PORTLAND,OREGON CROCKETT,CALIFORNIA MONROVIA,CALIFORNIA
(425)558-0134 (503)233-4068 (530)787-6756 (626)256-6662, .
