Soil cuttings generated during the drilling process will
also be screened for the presence of volatile organics using
the above methods.
Soil samples submitted for analysis will be selected based
on lithologic observations and obvious signs of
contamination ( i. e. PID readings, odors , and/or soil
discoloration) . At a minimum, the sample collected
immediately above the water table will be submitted for
laboratory analysis.
Samples will be collected, preserved, and transported under
chain-of-custody in accordance with WaterWork ' s Quality
Assurance/Quality Control ( QA/QC ) Plan (Appendix II ) .
Select samples will be analyzed for benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and xylenes ( BTEX ) and total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHG) by appropriate FT and DHS
methods. Sequoia Analytical (CA certification No. 145 ' ill
perform the analyses.
Soil cuttings will be placed on and covered with 6 mil
plastic on-site. Somal cuttings and groundwater will be
properly disposed of in a timely and appropriate manner
after reviewing the analytical results and obtaining agency
approval. The storage area will be posted with a sign
indicating the source and contents of each pile or drum.
Groundwater will be monitored in accordance with WaterWork ' s
QA/QC Plan. A survey mark tied to a common datum will be
established on each wellhead for determining groundwater
gradient direction. Surveying will be performed under the
direct supervision of a California Registered Civil
Engineer. Groundwater contours will be constructed using a
kriging program.
Subsequent- to installation and well development , water
samples will be collected from the monitoring well after
purging a minimum of four well volumes (casing and sandpack)
from each well. Stabilization of EC, pH, and temperature
will be checked after purging and before and after sample
collection to ensure samples collected are representative of
formation water. The purged water w3.11 remain on-smote, in
secured 55-gallon drums, until laboratory results are
received. A proposal for treatment or disposal of the water
produced during development will then be prepared. Water
sample collection and preservation will be in accordance
with WaterWork's QA/QC Plan. Bailers with bottom emptying
devices to reduce volatilization will be used. The water
samples will be analyzed by Sequoia Analytical for BTEX and
TPHG by appropriate EPA and DHS methodologies.
During well development/purging, drawdowns will be monitored
in order to estimate formation transmissivity. This data
will be used along with the lmthologic descriptions to
assess contaminant pathways and velocities.
4
