e ' ,
1
BP Oil Facility No 11191
April 11, 1995
storage tank (UST) complex. Locations of the site facilities are shown on the Site Plan
(Figure 2)
PREVIOUS WORK
Based on information supplied by BP, we understand that RESNA Industries (RESNA)
drilled four exploratory soil borings (B-1 through B-4) at the subject site in December 1992
to evaluate whether fuel hydrocarbons were present in soil and/or groundwater at selected
locations at the site Locations of the soil borings are shown on Figure 2 Benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) were detected at concentrations up to 0 0880
parts per million (ppm) in soil samples from borings B-1, B-2, and B-4 at depths up to 45
feet below ground surface (bgs) Groundwater was not encountered in these borings A
sensitive receptor survey identified one domestic and two municipal water supply wells
within 0 5-mile radius of the subject site These data were reported in RESNA Report No
17050 01, Preliminary Site Assessment, dated February 11, 1994
RESNA drilled one exploratory soil boring (B-5) to 60 feet bgs near boring B-4 to confirm
} the presence of residual hydrocarbons detected in the soil sample from boring B-4 at 45 feet
bgs. Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes were detected in the sample from boring
B-5 at 46 5 feet bgs, and benzene was detected in the sample from 51 5 feet bgs. Benzene
concentrations in these two samples were 0 15 and 0 0093 ppm, respectively. Residual
petroleum hydrocarbons were not detected in the soil sample from boring B-5 at 60.5 feet
bgs Groundwater was not encountered in the boring and is reported to be greater than 70
feet bgs, based on groundwater monitoring wells within two miles of the subject site
These data were reported in RESNA Report No 1117shoo/123013 01, Limited Subsurface
Investigation, dated February 8, 1994
FIELD ACTIVITIES
Field work was performed in accordance with the GSI Site Safety Plan No. 4300 701,
dated September 22, 1994 Underground Service Alert (USA) was notified prior to
beginning drilling activities Drilling was performed under SJCEHD Permit No 004936,
dated December 15, 1994 A copy of the permit is attached in Appendix B
Three onsite soil borings (B-6, B-7, and B-8) were drilled on February 2, 1995 The
borings were drilled using a truck-mounted drill rig equipped with 6.75-inch diameter
hollow-stem augers Drilling was performed by Geo-Environmental drilling of Yuba City,
California (license #C57-676923) Soil samples for description and possible analysis were
} collected at five-foot intervals A GSI geologist observed the drilling of the borings,
4306 701-2 2
