Observations of Steelhead trout have been
confirmed in the San Joaquin River at its confluence with the Merced River, approximately
*- 45 miles south of the Port of Stockton.
8.0. CONCEPTUAL SITE MODEL
The exposure assessment considers the characterization of the exposure setting, identification of
exposure pathways, exposed populations, route of exposure, and quantification of exposure. There
are several potential pathways by which exposure can occur. These pathways are routes by which
.. chemicals may potentially impact populations and all pathways are initially considered prior to
selecting those appropriate for site specific conditions.
The site conceptual model, included as Appendix L, reflects the exposure pathways, exposed
populations, and route of exposure. The conceptual model depicts the potential pathways occurring
at the former Continental Grain Facility.
8.1. POTENTIALLY EXPOSED POPULATION
The individuals potentially affected by the ground water contamination are the facility employees
or commercial operators with private wells down gradient of the site. This potential exposure would
occur through ingestion and dermal contact with the water or through vapor intrusion. These
pathways are described in the following section. As the facility is an active site owned and operated
by Penny Newman Grain Company with controlled entry on the Port of Stockton, there is no
exposure to the general population at the facility.
8.2. SOIL EXPOSURE PATHWAY
Assessment of soil as a source typically includes four potential release mechanisms. volatilization,
runoff, leaching to ground water,or soil for ingestion. The site investigation characterized in the land
surface is primarily gravel and asphalt in the former UST area. Figures 1 and 2 displayed the site
— topography and cover type.Since the September 2005 remedial action involving removal and off-site
disposal of source soils impacted with petroleum products to a depth of 28 feet bgs effectively
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
LN
