3.5 EXCAVATION BACKFILLING
Soil deemed acceptable for re-use as described above will be intermixed with imported
fill to create an engineered backfill. The backfill material will be placed in maximum 1-
foot lifts, moisture conditioned as needed, and compacted in place to a minimum of 90%
relative compaction(ASTM D1557),up to a depth of approximately 2 feet below original
grade. The upper 2 feet will be compacted to a minimum of 95% relative compaction.
The engineered backfill will continue until a depth of approximately 6- to 8-inches
below grade (depending on original topsoil thickness). The previously stripped off
topsoil layer (with seed bank) will be placed, moisture conditioned, and compacted as a
final lift in the backfilled excavation.
Compaction testing will be performed utilizing a nuclear densometer with the number
of tests determined by the area of backfilling (a minimum of 1 test per 250 square feet of
backfill area for every 1-foot lift.
3.6 REPORTING
Following receipt and verification of all analytical data, manifests, etc.,CRA will prepare
a report documenting field activities, analytical results, conclusions, and
recommendations. The report will include permits, figures, data tables, and certified
laboratory analytical data sheets.
3.7 SCHEDULE
A conceptual implementation schedule is provided below.
• Receive RWQCB approval of well destruction work plan-May 30,2014
o This work plan was submitted under separate cover on May 23,2014
• Complete well destructions-June 6,2014
• Receive RWQCB approval of excavation work plan-June 13,2014
• Retain excavation contractor-June 27,2014
080223(33) 10 CONESTOGA-ROVERS&ASSOCIATES
