October 18, 2013
San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department
1868 East Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, California 95205-6232
Subject: Work Plan for Well and Boring Permit Application
16101 Schulte Road
Tracy, California
Versar Project No. 110712.0003.001
To Whom It May Concern:
On September 6, 2013 five geotechnical borings were drilled along the southern boundary of
16101 Schulte Road, APN 209-22-04. A gasoline odor was noted in depth intervals of two
borings at 15, 35 and 50 feet below ground surface (bgs). Because the purpose of these
borings was geotechnical, field personnel were not prepared to provide proper environmental
characterization of the samples.
Versar proposes to advance two soil borings adjacent to the location of the two borings where
the gasoline odor was detected; one to 50 feet and one to 40 feet. The 50-foot boring will be
continuously cored from 40 to 50 feet bgs. The 40-foot boring will be continuously cored from
10 to 20 feet and from 25 to 35 feet bgs. The purpose of the work is to assess if nearby
petroleum pipelines have leaked. Two soil samples from each boring will be collected within
the depth interval where odors were previously encountered and analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons in the gasoline through oil ranges by EPA Method 8260/8021 and 8015. Each
boring will also be sampled at 5 and 10 feet bgs to document the source was not from surface
spillage. Groundwater is not anticipated to be encountered; however, if encountered Versar
will collect a grab-groundwater sample if enough water is present.
Per San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department requirements, each boring will be
backfilled with grout using a tremie pipe to 5 feet bgs and finished to match the surrounding
surface (dirt).
If you wish to discuss or have any questions pertaining to the information presented in this
letter, please contact me at(916) 863-9323 and beroer@versar.com.
Sincerely,
Tim Berger, P.G., R.E.A.
Program Manager
Southwest Division
i
5330 Primrose Drive,Suite 147
Fair Oaks,CA 95628 j
916.962.1612
LV E R 'S A R www.versar.com
