Three of the borings will be for grab groundwater sampling, only. Up to one
soil sample will generally be collected at the remaining boring locations, except for borings along
the former Shell pipeline area where up to 2 soil samples will be collected for analysis.
• Up to seven soil vapor borings will be advanced to 5 feet bgs in proposed structure locations.
Direct-push drilling equipment will be used to advance the soil borings. Standard soil logging and sample
handling practices will be employed. The soil, soil vapor and grab groundwater samples will be collected
from the borings and preserved using standard techniques.
The borings will be grouted using a tremmie pipe in accordance with SJCEHD guidelines. Soil cuttings
and decontamination rinsate generated during drilling activities will be placed into appropriate, sealed and
labeled 55-gallon drums. Samples of the investigation-derived wastes will be collected and submitted to
an analytical laboratory for waste characterization analyses. Following waste acceptance profiling, the
drums will be picked-up and disposed at an appropriate, offsite waste disposal facility.
Laboratory Analysis: Up to 16 groundwater samples, 30 soil samples and seven soil vapor samples will
be submitted to analytical laboratories for analysis of one or more of the following analyses by standard
United States Environmental Protection Agency(USEPA) methods.
• Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons(TPH) as gasoline-range organics(TPH-g), diesel-range organics
(TPH-d)and motor oil-range organics(TPH-mo)by USEPA Method 8015B with silica gel cleanup
—Up to 30 soil samples(up to 12 shallow composite samples and 18 discrete samples)
• Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl benzene and Xylenes (BTEX) and MTBE by USEPA Method 82608-
Up to 30 soil samples (up to 12 shallow composite samples and 18 discrete samples)
• Organochlorine Pesticides(OCPs) by USEPA Method 8081 —Up to 18 soil samples (including 12
composite samples and 6 discrete samples)
• Resource Conservation Recovery Act(RCRA) 8 Metals by USEPA Method 6010—Up to 18 soil
samples (up to 12 shallow composite samples and 6 discrete samples)
• Volatile Organic Compounds(VOCs) and TPH-g by USEPA Method 82608—Up to 16 grab-
groundwater samples
• TPH-d and TPH-mo by 8015M with silica gel cleanup—Up to 16 grab-groundwater samples
• VOCs by TO-15- Up to 7 soil vapor samples
Reporting: Upon completion of the field activities and receipt of the laboratory analyses, BVNA will
review our findings and analytical results and prepare a written report summarizing the work performed at
the Site. The report will include tabulated data summaries, figures showing the boring locations and
appended boring logs and certified analytical reports.
