V % J
Woodward-Clyde
V
V
2.0
SCOPE OF WORK
V
` 2.1 SOIL BORINGS
A truck mounted hollow stem auger drill rig will be used to advance three soil borings (see
Figure 3 for proposed locations) .to a total depth of 50 feet below ground surface (bgs).
Samples will be collected by driving a Modified California Sampler into the soil formation
with a 140 pound safety hammer failing a distance of 30 inches. Samples will be collected
at 5 feet bgs below the tank elevation and every five feet thereafter. If a change in lithology
L or groundwater is encountered, an additional sample will be collected as soon as possible.
. Samples will be screened in the field for total petroleum hydrocarbons using an immunoassay
technique, following EPA Method 4030. If the samples at 45 feet bgs and 50 feet bgs in a
L boring do not show any indications of being impacted with petroleum hydrocarbons, the
boring will be backfilled with either cement &Lgund or bentonite chips.
V
If either of the last two samples from a boring show indications of being impacted with
petroleum hydrocarbons, the boring will be advanced and additional samples will be collected
every 5 feet. The boring will continue to be advanced until two consecutive samples show
no indications of being impacted with petroleum hydrocarbons. If groundwater is
encountered, the boring will be completed as a groundwater monitoring well.
A set of standard field methodologies are included in Appendix B.
2.2 FIELD DATA COLLECTION
Soil samples collected will be observed and described. Headspace measurements of each
sample will also be taken. Immunoassay field screening for TPH will be performed on
selected samples following EPA Method 4030. All soil descriptions, headspace readings,
and field screening results will be recorded on a boring log. A boring log will be prepared
for each boring advanced.
9054/YJAX2.M(03-13-95)sAC 2-1
