Beacon Station No 3641 September 9, 2002
Stockton,California Work Plan
` In the interim prior to completion of the delineation phase and completion of a final
• corrective action plan, Horizon proposes to initiate soil vapor extraction for remediation of
the impacted vadose zone As indicated by previously completed remedial testing, soil
vapor extraction has been shown effective in removing vadose zone hydrocarbons from the
site subsurface Interim soil remediation would reduce the threat to off-site sensitive
groundwater receptors and would likely reduce the final cost for remediation Additional
groundwater delineation and interim soil remediation work phases are also described below
Delineation Phase
The delineation phase shall utilize cone-penetrometer (CPT) equipment to facilitate
collection of soil, groundwater and stratigraphic data Data from this phase shall be used to
site additional groundwater monitoring wells
Task 1 Attempt to obtain an off-site access agreement from the property owner(s) to
the west of the site, select and schedule drilling contractor, obtain well permits
from the SJCEHD, prepare a site-specific safety plan, notify Underground
Service Alert (USA)
Task 2 Advance CPT borings at five locations (CPT-1 through CPT-5) as shown on
Figure 3 The borings shall facilitate the evaluation of the vertical and lateral
extent of petroleum hydrocarbon impacts to soil and groundwater, and site
stratigraphy
Boring CPT-1 shall be advanced to a depth of approximately 100 feet below
surface grade with the CPT tool to evaluate the vertical succession of soil
types and water-bearing zones from approximately 5 feet bsg to the total depth
of the CPT boring The boring shall be backfilled with an appropriate
material The stratigraphic data collected from boring CPT-1 shall be used to
•
641 wp9-02
Project No 1641 15 4 HORIZON ENVIRONMENTAL INC.
