r <br />` BITE HEALTH & SAFETY PLAN <br /> i <br /> 7. 0 WORK ZONES AND SECURITY MEASURES <br /> A. GENERAL <br /> A site must be controlled to reduce the possibility of <br /> exposure to any contaminants present and their transport <br /> by personnel or equipment from the site. <br /> A control system is required to assure that personnel <br /> and equipment working on the hazardous waste site are <br /> subjected to appropriate health and safety surveillance. <br /> The possibility of exposure or translocation of <br /> contaminants can be reduced or eliminated in a number of <br /> ways, including: <br /> * Setting up security or physical barriers to <br /> exclude unnecessary personnel from the general <br /> area <br /> * Minimizing the number of personnel and equipment <br /> on-site consistent with effective operations <br /> * Establishing work zones within the site <br /> * Establishing control points to regulate access to <br /> work zones <br /> * Conducting operations in a manner to reduce the <br /> exposure of personnel and equipment <br /> * Minimizing the airborne dispersion of contaminants <br /> * Implementing the appropriate personnel and <br /> equipment decontamination procedures <br /> B. FIELD OPERATIONS WORK AREA <br /> Work areas (zones) will be established based on <br /> anticipated contamination. Within these zones <br /> prescribed operations will occur utilizing appropriate <br /> personal protective equipment. Movement between areas <br /> will be controlled at check points. The planned zones <br /> are: <br /> 1. Exclusion Area (contaminated) ; <br /> 2 . Contamination Reduction Area; and, <br /> 3 . Support Area (non-contaminated) . <br /> 10 <br />
