ti
i
Elinor Ratliff Page 2
January 2, 1994
I
CURRENT STATUS
All openings to the drain pipes were immediately filled with
concrete to ensure that no liquids from the shop entered them
after they were disconnected from the tank. The steel galvanized
pipe was threaded together and stretches from the center of the E
shop to the south exterior of the building where it terminated at
the used oil storage tank.
V
Another length of pine extended from the west wall .of the shop to
the used oil tank where it connected with the other pipe. All of
the exterior pipe has been removed as part of the underground
tank evacuation.
No contamination was observed at the exterior of the building
near the terminus of the used oil pipes.
i
Since the used oil flowed under gravity through the used oil
tanks and was not placed under pressure, it is unlikely, given
the age of the pipes that°' they could have corroded or leaked used
oil. Toyota Town has, however, been requested to test the area
around the pipes.
SPECIFIC PROPOSAL
We propose to drill holes through the concrete and take approxi-
mately five (5) samples ,inside the building. We estimate that
the pipes begin at approximately three ( 3 ) inches under the
concrete on the north side of the building and terminate at
approximately twelve (12) inches below the surface near the south
side of the building where they exit.
Four of the five holes will be placed at a depth of twelve" (12)
inches below the surface of the soil. The fifth will be taken at
eighteen (18) inches below the surface.
The samples will be removed by hand auger taken at a distance of
approximately twelve (12) inches from the pipes.
The samples will be removed under the supervision of the County
of San Joaquin. The soil will be placed into a sterilized con-
tainer ensuring that there is no head space.
A Chain of Custody document will be completed and the samples
will be packed in dry ice and sent to a State certified laborato-
ry. The State certified laboratory will run the standard BTEX w
Test to screen for hydrocarbon materials.
1
k
