Hardin )Yay, Stockton CA
Attached soil excavation and remediation report(Touchstone, 8110193)
Dear Mr. Collins:
Please find attached the "Soil Excavation And Remediation Report"dated August 10, 1993, which
was prepared by Chevron's consultant, Touchstone Developments (Touchstone) to describe the soil
sampling and analytical results associated with soil remediation activities at the subject site.
The locations of all soil samples and the sampling procedures used are documented in Touchstone's
report. Soil samples were obtained to determine the effectiveness of soil remediation by
overexcavation, characterize soil stockpiles for uncontrolled soil aeration, and to demonstrate the
effectiveness of onsite soil aeration. The subsequent soil analytical results were all below the
method detection limits for TPHGas and BTEX constituents. These data serve to demonstrate that
all residual soil contamination onsite has been effectively removed. Aerated soil stockpile material,
characterized by samples A-1 through A-11, was returned to the tank pits on August 16, 1993 as
clean backfill material.
The recent onsite activities described in Touchstone's report were performed in response to a
request for further site investigation made by the San Joaquin County Public Health Services
(SJCPHS) in a letter dated, June 14, 1993. The soil remediation and sampling results have
demonstrated that there are no potential sources of groundwater contamination remaining at the
subject site. To ensure this, Chevron will be collecting soil samples from beneath the former
hydraulic hoists during the week of August 30, 1993. Hoist samples will be collected under the
supervision of(SJCPHS). Once it has been determined that shallow soils under the former hoists
are clean, no further action should be required and Chevron would then expect the SJCPHS to
recommend this site for case closure.
If you have any further questions or comments please call me at(510) 842-8695.
Sincerely,
