A
La
GRANITE CONSTRUCTION, FRENCH CAMP
WKA No. 2088.04
December 2, 1993
Page 3
M
shop building did not contain significant concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons, nor did they
. contain elevated concentrations of the waste oil metals cadmium, chromium, lead, zinc, and
nickel.
~ Analysis of the samples obtained from soils beneath the former dispenser island revealed
relatively high concentrations of diesel. Laboratory test results indicated that the contamination
did not extend laterally to adjacent borings. Field observations during the construction of boring
B4 revealed that diesel contamination likely extended from the surface to a depth of
approximately 12 feet below site grade. Based on these data, we recommended that the
contaminated soil in the area of the former dispenser island be excavated, stockpiled on-site, and
characterized for subsequent treatment or disposal. A more detailed discussion of our soil and
ground water investigation can be found in our April 29, 1993 Report of Findings on file with
San Joaquin County EHD.
Based on the results of our previous investigations, a workplan dated July 26, 1993 was prepared
to investigate the lateral extent of ground water contamination and to excavate and remove the
diesel-contaminated soil in the vicinity of the former dispenser island. The remainder of this
`' report presents the results of that work.
L
GROUND WATER INVESTIGATION
In accordance with our July 26, 1993 workplan, three ground water monitoring wells were
L constructed northerly and northeasterly of the former diesel and gasoline USTs. These wells
were constructed and developed in accordance with the field procedures contained in Appendix
A. Nine soil samples, obtained during the construction of the three wells, were submitted to a
California-certified laboratory for TPH and BTEX analyses. Ground water in the three new
wells and the three previously constructed wells was sampled September 28, 1993; the water
samples were analyzed for TPH and BTEX.
WALLACE•KUHL
!
