The safety plan is applicable to personnel of Applied
a GeoSystems and to subcontractors of Applied GeoSystems. The Applied GeoSystems
geologist will act as the Site Safety Officer. Personnel at the site will be informed of the
contents of the site safety plan before work begins. A copy of the plan will be kept at the
work site and will be available for reference by appropriate parties during the work.
A
Excavation of Existing Tank Cavity
A geologist from Applied GeoSystems will be onsite to observe excaiation of tite soil from
bothtank cavities. Immediately following the removal of the four exist ing`underground=
`storage tanks,.the tank cavity will.be excavated to a,depth between 2 and 4 feet below the
{, former tanks to evaluate if hydrocarbons"remain in place. Du
rin$excavation,the geologist,
will use a'PID to characterize the relative levels-of hydrocarbons in the soil and note'any
-dbjective evidence:of hydrocarbons such as obvious product odor and discoloration. Field
instruments such as the PiD are useful for indicating relative levels of hydrocarbon vapors,
but do not detect the concentration of hydrocarbons present with the same precision as
laboratory analyses.
0
We will collect two soil sample's within'2 to.4 feet below the base of.each forrher.tank. If
PIDreadings are less than 50 ppmv,`_we will._submif_the-soil:samples_to_theJaboratory-.for..
analyses :If PID"readings'are.greater than 50 ppmv we will observe additional excavation
in the gasoline-tank cavity until PID readings are less than 50p0mv and submit these"sail.
AppAied 4700Sj`Wems
