i <br /> Sample Labeling and Handling <br /> The soil samples selected for possible laboratory analysis will be removed from the sampler and <br /> quickly sealed in their brass sleeves with Teflon tape and plastic caps The respective sample <br /> containers will be labeled in the field with the lob number, sample location and depth, and date, <br /> and promptly placed in iced storage for transport to the laboratory Chain-of-custody records will <br /> be initiated in the field by the geologist and accompany the samples to a laboratory certified by the <br /> state of California to perform the analyses requested <br /> Drilling Methods <br /> Before drilling begins, we will notify Underground Service Alert of our intent to drill so that <br /> approximate locations of underground utility lines and structures can be marked The soil borings <br /> will be started by hand-augenng to a depth of 5 feet to iruni m ize the possibility of damaging <br /> underground utilities <br /> The bonngs will be drilled with a mobile B-61 or similar drill rig equipped with 10-umch-outside- <br /> diameter by 5-1/4-inch-inside-diameter, continuous-flight, hollow-stem augers The augers will be <br /> steam cleaned before use in each boring to irunmuze cross-contamination of the borings The drill <br /> cuttings will be stored in type 17-E, steel, 55-gallon drums or stockpiled on site and covered with <br /> plastic before disposal at an appropriate disposal facility <br /> Soil Sampling in Borings <br /> Soil samples for analysis and identification will be collected at approximately 5-foot intervals from <br /> the bonngs during drilling Soil samples will be Collected by advancing the boring to a point dust <br /> above the sampling depth, and then driving a California-modified, split-spoon sampler containing <br /> clean brass or stainless steel sleeves through the hollow (,enter of the auger into the soil The <br /> sampler will be driven 18 inches with a standard 140-pound hammer repeatedly dropped <br /> 30 inches The number of blows needed to drive the sampler each successive 6 inches will be <br /> counted and recorded to evaluate the relative consistency of the soil Sampling equipment will be <br /> cleaned between each use with an industrial soap and clean tap water <br /> The samples selected for laboratory analysis will be removed from the sampler and promptly <br /> sealed in their brass sleeves with Teflon tape and plastic. caps The samples will be labeled and <br /> promptly placed in iced storage for delivery to the laboratory <br /> Logging of Borings <br /> Soil samples will be logged using the Unified Soil Classification System The texture, color, <br /> moisture, plasticity, and consistency of soil, the blow counts, and subjective evidence of <br /> 40 <br /> SAL\N\,PIM805v08051400 31)S-95 p t.+ 1 A-2 Rev 0,7/23/96 <br />
