The failure was the result of improperly operating vapor vents. The vents
were repaired and the tank retested tight on November 13, 1991. Four monitoring
wells were installed in December of 1992. Gasoline constituents were detected in
the monitoring wells and three additional wells were constructed in March of
1994. Since that time the only corrective action conducted at this site by BP has
been quarterly monitoring.
In November of 1994 samples were taken from beneath the dispensers, from 2
borings near each tank bed, and from a vapor well installed by tank 1. This was
done as part of a site assessment by EMCON. The results of the assessment
indicated the presence of gasoline constituents in groundwater near tank 1 and in
soil beneath the dispenser islands. The results of vapor sampling from the vapor
well is not currently available.
Boring logs from monitoring wells 1-4 indicate that the soil beneath the site is
sandy. Wells 1-4 are screened from 19-32 feet below grade. Groundwater has
been over screen in these wells since 1993. PHS/EHD does not possess boring
logs for wells 5-7. Well 5 is screened from 14 -32 and well 6 is screened from 13-
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
