Ms Margaret Lagorio Project No 880-040 IA <br /> November 8, 2002 <br /> Page 2 <br /> SITE BACKGROUND <br />' The site is located on West Hammer Lane east of Interstate 5 in Stockton California <br />' (Figure 1) The site is a privately owned Arco-branded service station that has operated <br /> for approximately 14 years The site currently contains three 12,000-gallon capacity <br /> gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs) and associated product lines and dispensers <br /> Diesel fuel has never been dispensed at the site <br /> Product line upgrade was conducted in January 2000 After the removal of dispenser <br /> plumbing, petroleum hydrocarbon impacted soil was discovered beneath the western <br /> dispenser islands Soil samples were collected from beneath the dispensers and along <br /> the product lines at a depth of approximately 3 5 feet below ground surface (bgs) <br /> Remedial activities conducted in January 2000 included removal of approximately <br /> 262 tons of impacted soil in the area of the dispenser and product lines Excavation was <br /> restricted laterally by concrete canopy footings and asphalt surfacing Maximum <br /> excavation depth was 10 feet bgs due to shallow groundwater depth Results of soil <br /> sampling and excavation were reported in 1T's Product Line Upgrade and Soil <br /> Excavation Report, dated March 15, 2000 <br /> Five Geoprobco borings (GP-1 through GP-5) were advanced on August 15 and 16, <br /> 2000, using a direct-push technology Each boring was advanced to groundwater, at <br /> which time a discrete water sample was collected Following groundwater sample <br /> collection, each boring was advanced to a maximum depth of 30 feet bgs <br />' Three groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-3)were installed on <br /> September 6, 2000 The well locations were selected based upon results of the <br /> Geoprobco investigation Quarterly groundwater monitoring has been conducted at the <br /> site since the First Quarter 2001 event <br /> J <br /> N banefpllProjectsTrojects48801040\lakO1 IMAssessment and Intenm Remedial Report doc <br />
