Working to Restore Nature
42501 Albrali Street
Fremont,California 94538 ttllJJrr U
Phone: (510)440-3300
FAX: (510)651-2233
November 6, 1992
Project No. F7132.31
Slate Family Enterprises, Inc.
P.O. Box 609
Lodi, CA 95241
Attention: Mr. Ron Slate
Subject: Soil and Groundwater Investigation at Quik Stop Market No. 132
3555 West Hammer Lane,Stockton,California
Dear Mr. Slate:
RESNA Industries Inc. (RESNA), is currently performing environmental investigations required
by the Environmental Health Division of the San Joaquin County Public Health Services and the
Central Valley Region of the California Regional Water Quality Control Board on behalf of Quik
Stop Markets, Inc. (Quik Stop). Information obtained from previous investigations has indicated
that contamination on the Quik Stop property may be migrating to the soil and/or groundwater
beneath your property. We have to date conducted investigations on the Quik Stop site and around
your Taco Bell site. In order to complete these investigations, it will be necessary to install
groundwater monitoring wells and collect soil and groundwater samples from beneath your
property.
The investigation that we have proposed, will involve the installation of two 2-inch-diameter
groundwater monitoring wells at the locations shown on Plate 1. The installation of these
monitoring wells will involve the use of a truck-mounted drilling rig which will drill a borehole,
approximately 8 inches in diameter through the asphalt and into the underlying soil. After the
proper depth is achieved (20 to 30 feet), a groundwater monitoring well will be constructed in the
borehole. The surface expression of this operation will be a traffic-rated well cover consisting of a
metal plate approximately 8 to 9 inches in diameter with a 2- to 3-inch wide concrete collar set at
grade. The installation of this device will not affect the movement of vehicles on your property.
All soil and debris resulting from the drilling and installation will be removed from your property.
Future operations will involve periodic(approximately four times a year) collection of groundwater
samples from the well. This procedure is routine and RESNA will conduct it in a safe and
expeditious manner. Although none is anticipated,Quik Stop will repair any damage (beyond well
installation)to your property caused by this investigation.
During our conversation, you expressed concern over where we proposed to install our
groundwater monitoring wells and the possibility of our operations affecting your business. Of
particular concern was your lunch business, most of which takes place between 11:00 am. and
1:00 p.m. and your dinner business, which starts between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. As shown on
Plate 1,one of the monitoring wells is proposed to be installed in the parking area and the other in
