(ATC) on your behalf. EHD concurs with ATC's assessment that methyl tertiary-
butyl ether (MTBE) concentrations appear to indicate that "the plume is stable, shrinking, and
remains within the site property boundaries."
MTBE, the main chemical of concern at this site, was detected in groundwater samples collected on
September 7, 2007, from monitoring wells MW-2 (screened between 20 and 30 feet below surface
grade (bsg) and MW-5 (screened between 9 and 19 feet bsg) at 5.9 micrograms per liter (µg/L) and
20 pg/L, respectively. EHD interprets the current site data to justify a No Further Action Required
consideration concerning investigation and remediation of the contamination from the former
underground storage tanks.
Please note that the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB) is requiring
evaluation of Environmental Screening Levels (ESLs), (San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality
Control Board) California Human Health Screening Levels (CHHSLs), and the potential for vapor
intrusion into buildings for closure consideration of sites having residual contamination proposed to
be left in place. Therefore, you need to evaluate the potential for vapor intrusion inside the buildings
located onsite, the ESLs, and CHHSLs. Please submit a vapor intrusion evaluation based on existing
site data and the ESLs and CHHSLs evaluations or a work plan to EHD by March 14, 2008, to assess
the potential for vapor intrusion into the existing onsite buildings.
If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact Vicki McCartney at (209) 468-9852 or
by email at vmccartney@sjcehd.com.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
Victoria L.
