Hammer Ln., Stockton, CA; Site Code: 1130
San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
has reviewed the quarterly monitoring report, prepared by ATC Associates for the fourth
quarter of 1997.
Well screens for on site monitoring wells (MWs) range from 30 feet to 21 feet below
surface grade (bsg) in MW1R and from 9 feet to 19 feet in MWS. Groundwater is
currently at 10 ft. Results of quarterly sampling events therefore may not represent
groundwater conditions because the well screens do not intercept first water. MW5 is
currently the only properly screened well at the site with a screen interval intercepting
first water. MTBE continues to be present in this well.
Review of soil boring data shows 15 ft. was the maximum soil depth investigated and
gasoline constituents were evidenced in analytical results at this depth. The vertical
extent of soil and groundwater contamination has not been defined.
Based on this data, the following information/documentation is required for this site by
PHS/EHD:
1) Conduct a survey of domestic, municipal, agricultural and other wells within a 2000
foot radius of this site. Contact the Department of Water Resources, municipal water
suppliers and other sources to identify these wells. Provide the location and construction
of these wells.
2) Provide the operating history (time periods).of the site to better define the potential for
(and varieties of) fuel additives that may be found.
3) Each quarter sample and analyze water from all of the MWs until further direction
from PHS/EHD. Water samples should be analyzed for BTEX, TPHg and oxygenates
(which have the potential to migrate deep). Enclosed is a copy of a PHS/EHD letter
directing responsible parties to analyze for five oxygenates using EPA Method 8260.
Depending on subsequent sample results, additional MWs with appropriate screen
intervals may be necessary to provide accurate information.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
