`'Work Plan for Additional Groundwater]nvestiion
Quik Stop Market No. 132
3555 West Hammer Lane
Stockton,California
WORK DESCRIPTION
Task 1. Obtain Boring Permits and Encroachment Permits
Encroachment permits for drilling within the City of Stockton right-of-way (sidewalk) along
West Hammer Lane, will be obtained from the City of Stockton Public Works Department. In
accordance with City of Stockton requirements, a copy of ATC's insurance certificate naming
the City of Stockton as additional insured will be placed on file with the City. An Application
for Well/Pump Permit will be completed and filed with the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Division.
Task 2. Install Groundwater Monitoring Well and Perform Sampling and Analysis
In order to further delineate the lateral extent of petroleum hydrocarbon impacted groundwater
downgradient of ATC-2, one additional groundwater monitoring well is proposed at a down-
gradient location in the sidewalk along West Hammer Lane as shown on Figure 2. The borehole
will be drilled by a drilling contractor with a current C-57 license. All project work will be
performed under the direction of a California Registered Geologist.
Soil and groundwater samples will be obtained from the soil boring and will be analyzed by a
California-certified laboratory for TPH-G by EPA Method 8015M, BTEX by EPA Method 8020,
and MTBE and other fuel oxygenates by EPA Method 8260. The groundwater sample obtained
from the newly installed groundwater monitoring well will be obtained during the subsequent
groundwater monitoring and sampling event.
The borehole location will be marked and cleared for under ground utilities prior to drilling. The
groundwater monitoring well will be drilled using a truck mounted Mobile B-61 drill rig or
equivalent equipped with continuous flight, hollow stem augers. The groundwater monitoring
well will be drilled to a maximum depth of approximately 30 feet bgs. Undisturbed soil samples
will be collected at approximate 5-foot intervals from the soil boring. Soil samples will be
obtained with a California modified split spoon sampler. The sampler will be driven into
undisturbed soil ahead of the auger bit using a 140-pound downhole hammer. The split spoon
sampler holds three brass tubes for the collection of soil samples.
Upon removal of the tubes from the sampler, the lowermost tube will be capped with Teflon
liners and plastic caps. One or more soil samples will be selected from the boring from the
vadose zone for laboratory analysis. The sample(s) will be placed in an ice chest prior to being
hand delivered to a State certified laboratory. The soil in the middle tube of the sampler will be
screened for organic vapor with a photo ionization detector (PID) for evidence of petroleum
hydrocarbon vapors. The soil in the uppermost tube will be examined for lithology (provided
complete sample recovery occurs). The field geologist will prepare a log of the subsurface
OTleasanion\adminukartinez\QuikStop\Quik 132WurkplanObsite.doe 4
