' • • KOPPEL STOCKTON TERMINAL
WORK PLAN FOR MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION
' frequency be reduced to semi-annually for these three wells.Trends of concentrations will
continue to be monitored with semi-annual data. Starting after the first quarter of 1999 it is
' proposed that all existing wells be sampled semi-annually. The sampling events during
1999 would occur during the first and third quarters and would occur during the second
and fourth quarters during the year 2000. In general, the wells would be sampled in the first
and third quarters during the odd-numbered years and during the second and fourth
quarters during the even numbered years. It is proposed that all new wells be sampled
quarterly for the first year and then semi-annually after the first year according to the
' alternating year scheme. It is proposed that the background well be monitored during the
first two quarters proceeding installation. After the first two quarters of sampling, the
sampling frequency for the background well will be evaluated.
Soil Sampling
In order to better define nitrogen concentrations in the soil, soil samples will be collected at
10 locations thoughout the Koppel site. The samples will be collected at depths of 1 foot,
2-feet,4-feet,and 6-ft-bgs. Four sample locations are targeted for the area north of the
' warehouse, three locations are targeted for the area east of the warehouse, and two
locations are targeted for south of the warehouse. The samples will be analyzed for the
constituents shown in Table 3. Proposed sampling locations are shown on Figure 2.
TABLE 3
Analytical Methods for Soil Sampling
Parameter Analytical Method
Nitrate-Nitrogen Buffered Extraction EPA 353.3(M)/354.1(M)
' Ammonia-Nitrogen Potassium Chloride Extraction EPA/CE81-1 3-155
pH Saturation Paste USBR514.8.3
TKN Kjeldahl Digestion
Schedule
Well installation is targeted to be completed by the end of October 1998. This schedule will
' be followed unless offsite access agreements are delayed with the Port of Stockton or the
BN&SF Railroad.Well permits will be obtained from San Joaquin County before well
installation begins. It is expected that purge water from the new wells will be irrigated on
' the poplar grove at the Koppel StocktonTerminal site. Drill cuttings will be disposed of
between the rows of the poplar trees at the site and worked into the soil during routine
disking.
' RDD\E:\144002\FIELD INVESTIGATIOMNEW MW-SOIL WKPLAN.DOC 3
