SECTION 2 FORMER BAGGING PLANT INTERIM REMEDIAL ACTION
implementation of this interim remedial action, the damage will be assessed to determine the appropriate course
of action, which will be to repair or replace the well.
2.2.4 Final Grading
After soil amendment and slip plowing, the former bagging plant area soil amendment and tree replanting area
will be graded and disked or rototilled. The primary purposes of grading and disking or rototilling are to flatten out
surface soil disturbed during slip plowing, promote drainage to minimize pooling during precipitation events, and
incorporate any amendments remaining on the ground surface.
2.2.5 Tree Planting
After final grading, approximately 315 trees will be planted in the former bagging plant area treatment area.A mix
of sycamore(Platanus acerifolia),fruitless mulberry(Morus alba),and black locust(Robinia pseudoacacia)will be
planted. Other tree species may be planted in addition to or in lieu of these species if they exhibit the desired
characteristics (that is, hardiness, fast growth, deep rooting, high moisture use, easy maintenance, and resistance
to diseases and insects, especially moth infestation). The trees will be planted in spring 2014,when trees are
dormant. Before trees are planted,a limited number of soil samples will be collected from the treatment area at
depths of 0 to 2,2 to 4, and 4 to 6 feet bgs to evaluate soil pH, buffer pH, base saturation, plant-available
phosphorus, and exchangeable aluminum. More samples will be collected from 0 to 2 feet bgs than from ower
depths. The analytical results for these samples will be used to adjust the tree planting method, incorporate
additional amendments during tree planting,or both.
During tree planting, compost will be mixed with the soil before backfilling around the roots. After the trees, wv
planted, the drip irrigation in the treatment area will be replaced.
2.2.6 Investigation-Derived Waste
Because the treatment area will be graded after soil amendment and slip plowing, it is not anticipated ttuw r.
excess soil will be generated. Decontamination water will be discharged in the planted portion of the former
bagging plant area.
RDD/131490W1(CM5152.DOCA) 2-3
ES052913233837
