County of San Joaquin Public Health Services 2
April 4, 1990 (88168C)
The required actions have been performed by Staal, Gardner & Dunne,
Inc. (SGD): Results and comments are contained herein..
$ACKGROiTNIS
A 4,000-gallon underground storage tank (UST) ;used to store diesel
fuel was removed from the site on'Maras 1, 1989, by Jim Thorpe Oil Company (JTO,)...
' The UST removal: was :observed and documented by SGD in, a report entitled.:
Underground Storage Tank Removal. Color Spot Lodi. Ind_ , :dated March 1989.
The soils surrounding the fill port and the southwestern corner of
the t)ST were visibly stained and smelled of diesel fuel. Field monitoring with
A photoionization detector (FID) also indicated elevated total volatile petroleum
hydrocarbon (TPH) concentrations. Soil samples collected after the UST was
removed exhibited ethylbenzene, total xylenes, and TPH concentrations in;excess
of applicable regulatory action levels. As a result of the soil contamination,
SGD was hired by Color Spot, Inc. , to verify the existence of soil contamination,
delineate the lateral extent of contamination, and to evaluate adjacent .domestic
_ground water wells for contaminants associated with diesel .fuel..
;SGD conducted a soil vapor survey August 15, ;1:9:89, under San Joaquin
Local Health.District (SJLHD) permit a9-1857 and documented.by SGD letter-report
entitled Soft Vapor Study. Color Spot Lodi. Inc. , October 198.9:..
