375 West Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, California 95203-3306
Dear Mr. Long:
On 10 September 2014, the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) met
with the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (Regional Board) to discuss site
closure of the Local Oversight Program Case 1 for Sierra Lumber Manufacturers, Inc. It has
been more than eight years since the nine monitoring wells associated with Case 1 were last
sampled and the Regional Board has directed that the monitoring wells be sampled before
closure can be considered for this site. Therefore, the EHD directs that groundwater samples
be collected from monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, MW-4A, MW-4B, MW-6 and MW-8 and
analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g); benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX); methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), ethyl tertiary-butyl
ether (ETBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), tertiary butyl alcohol
(TBA), 1,2-dichoroethane (1,2-DCA) and 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB).
The EHD directs that the results from the monitoring and sampling event be included in a
closure summary report that addresses the criteria set forth in the Low-threat Closure Policy
(LTCP) and that includes data listed in Table 1 of Appendix A of the Tri-Regional Guidelines.
Notify the EHD once the groundwater sampling event has been scheduled so that an inspector
can be present. If you have any questions, please contact Vicki McCartney at (209) 468-9852
or by email at vmccartnevCDi7sicehd.com.
