The physical hazards are associated with the operation of the backhoe and working <br /> around the hole created by the over-excavation. Members of the field team will stay <br /> clear during the excavation and will take soil samples only from the backhoe bucket. <br /> No persons shall enter the excavation hole. Water samples shall be taken by pump <br /> or grab sampled. "Caution" tape shall be place around the perimeter of the <br /> excavation at least two feet from the edge-of-hole. <br /> PERSONAL PROTECTIVE AND SAFETY EQUIPMENT <br /> Based on the hazardanalysisfor this project,the following protective equipment <br /> will be required and used: <br /> work clothes hearing protection (if necessary) <br /> Hard hat gloves <br /> fire extinguisher <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING PLAN'. <br /> All sails suspected of being contaminated will be placed on plastic to prevent <br /> contamination to clean soil,and covered by plastic to prevent entrainment of <br /> hydrocarbon vapors into the air. <br /> All water removed from the site will be temporarily stored in tanks and disposed of <br /> properly. <br /> WORK PRA+ TICES <br /> Safe work practices to be employed during the entire progress of field work are as <br /> follows: <br /> Set up,assemble,and check out all equipment for integrity and proper function <br /> prior to starting work activities <br /> Ido not use faulty or suspect equipment. <br /> Use only new and intact protective clothing. Change any torn clothing. <br /> Do not use hands to wipe sweat away from face. Use a clean towel or paper <br /> towels. <br /> Practice contamination avoidance at all times. <br /> Do not smoke, eat,-drink or apply cosmetics while in the contaminated areas of <br /> the site,or prior to decontamination. <br />
