• Bunker East Wall: Oil and grease, TPHd, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes were
detected at concentrations of 3,100 mg/Kg, 550 mg/Kg, 0.056 mg/Kg, 0.079 mg/Kg, and 0.21
mg/Kg, respectively. Benzene was not reported above laboratory reporting limits in the
sidewall.
2.5 Backfilling and Compaction Activities
Soil compaction test results indicated that the backfill met compaction requirements. Details of
the backfill compaction testing are discussed in detail in the UST B, Hydraulic Oil Tank and
Backfill Compaction Testing Report prepared by John Minney dated February 23, 2011 and
included as Attachment C.
2.6 Monitoring Well Installation and Development
Prior to drilling activities a monitoring well permit was obtained from EHD. Permit number SR#
61890 was issued on February 4, 2011. A copy of the permit is included in Attachment D.
On February 11, 2011, under the oversight of Mr. Price, V&W installed a groundwater
monitoring well (MW-BR) using 8-inch hollow stem augers approximately 15 feet downgradient
of the northeastern extent of the UST B excavation. Soil samples were collected at five foot
intervals using a split spoon sampler. The center 6-inch brass sleeve was selected from the 10-
foot, 15-foot, and 20-foot intervals, the ends covered with Teflon® sheets and capped, uniquely
labeled, placed into an ice chest cooled to approximately 4°C for transportation to Argon under
chain of custody protocol for analysis. The remaining soil tubes were monitored using a PID.
The well was completed at 20 feet using ten feet of 0.020" slotted screen with a cap secured to
the bottom. A well cap was placed on the top of the casing and sealed to prevent materials from
entering the well casing. The filter pack was constructed using #3 Monterey sand brought to 9
feet bgs in the annulus. Two feet of bentonite chips were added above the filter pack and
hydrated. The upper 7 feet of the annulus was filled with neat cement grout and covered with a
traffic rated well box. Figure 6 is a schematic showing well construction details.
2.6.1 Analytical Results
The soil samples collected on February 11, 2011 were submitted for the following analyses:
• TPH9 and TPHd by EPA method 8015M;
• BTEX by EPA method 802113; and
• Fuel oxygenates: MTBE, di-isopropyl ether(DIPS), ethyl tert-butyl ether(ETBE), tert-amyl
methyl ether(TAME), t-butanol(TBA)by EPA method 8260B
No analyzed constituent was reported above laboratory reporting limits. Laboratory analytical
results are included in Attachment A-6.
-9-
