-- 1.0 INTRODUCTION
On behalf of the San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery, Ramage Environmental, Inc. has prepared
this Site Conceptual Model and Request for Case Closure for submittal to the San Joaquin
County Environmental Health Division (EHD) and the Central Valley Regional Water Quality
Control Board (RWQCB).
t..
1.1 Site Description
The subject property is an operating cemetery, on level terrain, located on the northeast
corner of Harding Way and Cemetery Lane in the city of Stockton (San Joaquin County),
California (Figure 1). The project site is located on the east side of the mausoleum building
(Figures 2, 3 and 4).
1.2 Project History
1.2.1 UST System Removal
On November 17, 1989, Stockton Service Station Equipment Company, Inc. removed one
500-gallon gasoline UST and one 1,000-gallon gasoline UST in response to a failed tank
tightness test, and a rapid loss of approximately 1,000 gallons of gasoline from the tank. A
hole approximately 5-inches in diameter and numerous pin-sized holes were observed in the
tank bottom. Three soil samples collected from beneath the former USTs contained up to
4,200 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH)-as-Gasoline
and 21 mg/kg of benzene. The locations of the former USTs are shown on Figure 2, and the
soil sample analytical results are summarized in Table 1.
1.2.2 Initial Site Characterization
On January 30, 1991, WaterWork Corp. published a Problem Assessment Report for
Investigation of Petroleum Hydrocarbon Contamination. Their scope of work included the
installation of four soil borings (SB-1, SB-2, SB-3 and SB-4) and one groundwater monitoring
well (MW-1). The soil boring and monitoring well locations are shown on Figure 2. Results of
the soil and groundwater sampling indicated that groundwater had been impacted by gasoline
' hydrocarbons, and that the majority of the hydrocarbon mass was concentrated in soil
r.. between 10 and 20 feet bgs. The soil sample analytical results are summarized in Table 1,
the well construction details are summarized in Table 2, and the groundwater analytical
results are included in Table 3.
4
iy
