WASTE ANALYSIS PLAN
INTRODUCTION
This Waste Analysis Plan is for the chromium treatment system operating under Permit By Rule ,
located at Applied Aerospace Structures Corp . , 3437 S . Airport Way, Stockton, CA 95206 . The
Waste Analysis Plan is required under CCR 66265 . 13 (b) .
FACILITY CONTACT INFORMATION
The facility contact is Lon Kitagawa, Environmental Coordinator for Applied Aerospace
Structures Corp . Some of the manufacturing requires processes to prevent corrosion of aluminum
parts using chromium contaminated solutions . The chromium treatment system operates under
Permit By Rule .
TREATMENT DESCRIPTION
Aqueous solutions containing chromium VI from the alodizing process and water scrubber unit
are pumped into a 1 , 300 gallon capacity polyethylene tank for batch treatment . Once the tank is
filled to around 1 , 000 gallons , it undergoes the following treatment processes : reduction of
hexavalent chromium to trivalent chromium using a ferrous sulfide product (ISS 850) , pH
adjustment using either sulfuric acid or caustic soda, addition of flocculant ( SWT- 556) , gravity
settling, and pumping through a filter press to remove water creating a solid hazardous waste
filter press "cake" . One to two 55 gal . drums are generated per treatment cycle . The filter press
"cake" is drummed and hauled off site by a registered transporter and disposed of at a licensed
TSDF .
CONSTITUENTS TO BE ANALYZED
The constituent to be analyzed is chromium, as this is the authorized wastestream for treatment
under Permit By Rule . pH will also be measured after treatment and before discharge .
TEST METHODS
EPA test method 200 . 7 will be used to determine chromium levels at the points of discharge
before entering the chromium treatment tank and to ensure the proper tiered permitting category .
EPA test method 200 . 7 will also be used initially to determine chromium levels from the
discharge tank after treatment to verify that the treatment process is effective . All solutions
being analyzed for chromium contain less than 0 . 5 % solids . Only certified labs authorized to
conduct EPA test method 200 . 7 will be used . After an initial determination that the treatment
i
r
i
