Ms.Margaret Lagorio, SJCEHD October 21,2003
Joe's Truck Plaza Project No. 2033-15600-01
Work Plan for Additional Site Assessment
Page 15
• Induced vacuum in observation wells,
• Groundwater elevation in observation wells,
• Well head vacuum,
• Vapor extraction rates, and
• Groundwater extraction rates.
Observation wellheads will be temporarily modified to monitor depth to water and
induced vacuum. Dedicated magnahelic gauges will be placed on the wellheads to
monitor induced vacuum during DPE. Change in groundwater elevation will be
periodically (every hour or at significant change in flow rates) monitored using a hand
held water level indicator. A photoionization recorder (PID) will also be used to monitor
the concentration of volatile organic compounds in the extracted soil vapors.
A minimum of two soil vapor and two groundwater samples will be collected during the
DPE test. Soil vapor samples will be forwarded to a California-certified testing
laboratory to be analyzed for TPHG, BTEX, MTBE, ETBE, TAME, DIPS, TBA, and
1,2-DCA as described in Task 3. Groundwater samples will be analyzed for TPHG,
TPHD, methanol, BTEX, MTBE, ETBE, TAME, DIPE, TBA, 1,2-DCA, EDB, and
ethanol as described in Task 3. Strict chain-of-custody procedures will be followed.
Reporting
Upon completion of the feasibility study and assessment activities, and receipt of all
analytical results, a document of findings will be prepared and submitted. The report will
include, but not be limited to, analytical tables, a scaled site plan, geologic cross sections,
iso-concentration contours, boring logs, certified analytical reports, and general findings
of the assessment. The report will describe the field procedures, and evaluate results and
observations during both the DPE and aquifer tests. The report will also include pumping
test methods and procedures, tabulated field data such as flow rates, induced vacuums,
and groundwater elevation measurements, and tabulated concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbons in extracted soil vapors and groundwater. The report will include
estimated mass extraction rates, estimated capture zone for groundwater extraction and
ROI for DPE, and calculated mass destruction rates.
SCHEDULE
Upon receiving approval of this work plan, the proposed work will be scheduled and a
well permit application package will be submitted to SJCEHD. It will likely take
approximately three to four weeks for a drilling contractor to become available. The
drilling should be completed within three weeks of initiation, and the remaining
fieldwork will likely require two additional weeks to complete.
