3.0 SUMMARY OF SITE ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES AND SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS There are two former UST pits at this site The north former UST pit is located to the west of the current UST pit, and formerly contained one 10,000-gallon gasoline UST, and one 8,000-gallon and one 6,000-gallon diesel USTs The south former UST pit is located in the southeastern area of the site and formerly contained one 12,000-gallon diesel UST Petroleum hydrocarbon impact has been identified in the soil and groundwater beneath the Joe's Truck Plaza site The following sections summarize the environmental activities performed to date, and discuss the geologic and hydrologic conditions beneath the site and the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon impact These discussions are based on our review of the following documents • Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Preliminary Site Assessment Report, Joe's Truck Stop, January 24, 1997 • Avalon Environmental Consultants, Phase II Environmental Assessment of Soil and Groundwater, Joe's Place Truck Stop, December 5, 1998 • Avalon Environmental Consultants, Phase II Groundwater Assessment Performed at Joe's Truck Plaza, March 20, 2000 • Avalon Environmental Consultants, Phase II Environmental Assessment of Soil and Groundwater, Joe's Place Truck Stop, April 15, 2001 • Avalon Environmental Consultants, Phase II Environmental Assessment of Soil and Groundwater, Joe's Place Truck Stop, May 15, 2002 • Avalon Environmental Consultants, Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Reports, First Quarter 2000 (February 12, 2000) through Second Quarter 2003 (June 23, 2003) Approximate locations of current and former USTs, soil borings, and wells are included on Figures 2 and 3 A drilling and well construction summary of all soil bonngs and wells is included in Table 2 Boring logs are included in Appendix A Historical groundwater analytical data are included in Appendix B Historical soil analytical data are included in Appendix C 3.1 Environmental Investigations • In January 1997, a preliminary site assessment was performed by Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc (Advanced) The assessment activities consisted of advancing six soil borings in the vicinity of the northern and southern tank pits, and one boring in the vicinity of former septic leach lines (Figure 3), collecting soil samples, and collecting grab groundwater samples TPHD was reported in one of the soil samples collected from the depth of approximately 6 feet bgs near the southern tank pit at the concentration of 1,000 mg/Kg Dissolved TPHD, TPHG, and MTBE were reported in groundwater samples collected from borings near both tank pits at concentrations up to 320,000 µg/L, 2,700 µg/L, and 95 µg/L, respectively P\Joe's Truck P]aza\ReportslSCM_09-2003\Joes truck plaza SCM doc Page 5 0TRA TU5
