San Joaquin County EHD-PHS
Bioremediation
June 26, 1995
Page 3
Remediation Cell
The remediation cell will be located on the eastern part of the property. The impacted soil will be
evenly placed on an existing concrete pad contained by(3) six foot high concrete side walls.
Straw bales will be used on the open side to complete and isolate the remediation cell. Visqueen
will be placed and secured over the straw bales to contain the soil within the biocell. The
impacted soil will be covered with 10 mil poly sheeting to minimize any fugitive emissions. The
Biocell dimension will be approximately 50'x 251x3'.
Remediation of Soils
The soil remediation will consist of the biotreatment of the+/- 100 cubic yards of impacted soils.
The soil will be inoculated with our proprietary consortia of microbes and enzymes, nutrients and
water(biosolution). The inoculmn will be applied in liquid form and allowed to penetrate the soil.
Water will then be added to the cell to transport the biosolution and to moisturize the impacted
soil in order to achieve and maintain approximately 25%moisture content. The cell will be
monitored and moisture conditions periodically to maintain moisture levels. This will allow
optimal conditions for the microbes to breakdown the petroleum hydrocarbons present. The
remediation cell will remain completely covered with plastic during the treatment process.
Conformation Soil Sampling
Verification soil sampling will include TPH-Gas\BTEX and conformation sampling will be
conducted once Biotreatment is completed. Excavated soil stockpile will be sampled Eight
discrete samples will be obtained and composited by the laboratory into two (2)four part
composite (ratio: 1 Per 50 cu. yds.). All samples will be sent under chain of custody to state
certified laboratory and analyzed by EPA Method 8015/8020 to confirm levels for regulatory
acceptance.
