San Joaquin County EHD-PHS
Bioremediation Workplan
June 26,1995
Page 2
Sample Results
The results of samples taken on June 15, 1995 show that sample TK3-South had Highly elevated
levels of Gasoline and Xylenes, 3,900 ppm and 540,000 ppb respectively with no presence of
Benzene. The excavated material that was removed, sample SP-3 South, also showed highly
elevated levels of Gasoline and Xylenes, 3,400 ppm and 410,000 ppb, respectively with no
presence of Benzene. The other soil samples obtained from excavation showed very low levels of
Gasoline or Xylenes, sample TK3-Center; Gasoline was non detect and Xylenes were 6.2 ppb,
sample TK3-North; Gasoline was 8.3 ppm and Xylenes were 130 ppb. The elevated levels in
TK3-North may be caused by the fill on the tank which was located on the north end of UST. (see
appendix A)
Overeacavation
On June 28, 1995 Fisch Environmental implemented the work plan submitted to San Joaquin
County (EHD-PHS). This work plan consisted of excavating to a depth of 27 feet. During the
excavation Fisch Environmental screened samples using a(FID). The FID showed higher
concentrations as the excavation proceeded deeper, at that time the over excavation was halted
due to the extent of contamination. The excavation was sampled at that time, the results are
presented in (appendix B).
Proposed Bioremediation Process
Fisch Environmental Construction's process consist of cultivated naturally occurring microbes and
enzymes, nutrients and water(biosolution). The Fisch Environmental's process is capable of
promoting and maintaining predominantly aerobic metabolism for the remediation of petroleum
hydrocarbons. Water is used for a homogenous application and serves as the transport
mechanism of the treatment. The process does not require exogenous oxygen supplementation to
promote aerobic metabolism, therefore tilling or turning of the soil becomes unnecessary.
