San Joaquin Motor Pool Facility May 11, 1999 <br /> Site Assessment Report <br /> . 7.2 In-Place UST Abandonment <br /> Upon submission and approval of a revised workplan dated March 18, 1999, and the receipt of <br /> analytical data from soil borings B-3 and SB-3 as requested by Letitia Briggs,permission was <br /> granted to abandon UST No 8 in-place On April 12 and 13, 1999, UST no 8 was abandoned <br /> in-place by filling entire UST with slurry and capping fill port with concrete <br /> 8.0 DRILLING AND SOIL SAMPLING <br /> Drilling services were provided by West Hazmat Drilling, Inc (WED) of Rancho Cordova, <br /> California Drilling was accomplished using a CME 75 or a Mobile B-51 drilling rig equipped <br /> with 8-inch or 10-inch diameter hollow stem augers Sampling was performed using a 2-inch <br /> (inside) diameter split-barrel sampler loaded with three (3) 2-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves <br /> Soil samples were collected under the supervision of Inspector Lon Duncan with SJCPHS Field <br />' procedures used during the investigation are presented in Appendix A <br /> From March 17 through 19, 1999, four (4) soil borings (B-1, B-2, B-3, and SB-3) were advanced <br /> at the SITE Soil boring B-1 was continuously cored to a depth of approximately 60 feet bgs in <br /> the area of removed UST No 3 (Areal) Soil boring B-2 was advanced to a depth of <br /> approximately 60 feet bgs in the proximity of replaced UST's No 1 and No 2 (Area 2) In Area <br /> 3, soil boring B-3 was advanced to a depth of approximately 20 feet bgs and boring SB-3 (slant <br /> boring) was advanced beneath existing UST No 8 to a depth of approximately 15 feet bgs Soil <br /> Ile samples were collected from each boring at approximate 5-foot intervals for a total of 30 <br /> samples Soil boring B 1 was converted into groundwater/vapor well MW-1 and boring B2 was <br /> converted into groundwater monitoring well MW-2 (Figure 3) <br /> 8.1 Hand Auger Sampling <br />' On March 16, 1999,two (2) confirmation soil borings(HA-1 and HA-2) were each advanced by <br /> hand angering to a depth of approximately 15 feet below ground surface (bgs) in Area 1 along <br /> the product piping where diesel contamination had previously been detected (Figure 3) Soil <br /> samples were collected at 5-foot intervals for a total of six (6) samples Samples were collected <br /> in 2-inch by 4-inch brass sleeves sealed with Teflon lined Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) end caps <br /> using a slide hammer assembly The hand auger and slide hammer assembly were <br /> decontaminated prior to each sampling interval <br /> 8.2 UST Soil Sampling <br /> 8.2.1 Waste Oil UST No. 4 Sampling <br /> On March 16, 1999 soil samples were collected from beneath the removed waste oil UST <br /> No 4 Two (2) soil samples (WO-N and WO-S) were collected approximately 2 feet <br /> below the invert on each end of the UST for a total depth of approximately nine (9) feet <br />' bgs One (1) soil sample (PL-1) was collected approximately 2 feet into the sidewall <br /> directly below fill-port pipe, at a depth of approximately 6 feet bgs The bottom samples <br /> were collected from the bucket of a backhoe and the piping sample was collected using a <br /> hand auger and slide hammer assembly <br /> i <br /> I <br /> 4 <br />
