Mr. Mike Desso
3525 Hyland Avenue, Suite 200 800 N. Brand Blvd
Costa Mesa, CA 92626 Glendale, CA 91203
Subject: Vapor Well Proposal Site Code: PR##9051
Nestle's USA (former)
230 Industrial Avenue
Ripon, CA
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed your
October 12, 2010 proposal to continue the required search to locate the three (lost) soil
vapor wells (VE-4, VE-11, &VE-12) installed at this site.
Previous attempts to locate the wells have indicated that the area for each of the
covered wellheads has been identified. Your proposal to dig a five-foot wide by five foot
long by five-foot deep excavation at each location to look for the well casing is
acceptable.
Included in the proposal was a plan for one of two options. If a vapor well casing is
found, the well will be destroyed following San Joaquin County Well Standards under a
permit issued by the EHD. If a casing is not found, your proposal stated that the hole will
be backfilled and match-completed to the surface and on behalf of Nestle USA, you
requested a letter from the EHD stating that the adequate and necessary work was done
and that the EHD will not require further efforts to locate the well casing.
The EHD approves the proposal and options with the condition that an EHD inspector is
on-site for the digging, as well as any vapor well destruction. The charges for the EFID
inspections will be billed to Nestle USA unless you request a change.
Thank you for your cooperation. Please contact Michael Infurna at (209) 468-3454 to
sche ule an appointment to start the excavation process.
Michael J. Infurna Jr., EHS Adrienne Ellsaesser, REHS
Registered Environmental Health Specialist Acting Program Coordinator
