FACILITY,
RIPON, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region (Regional Water
Board) staff has reviewed the First Quarter 2006 Site Status Report, Former Nestle USA
Inc., Facility, dated 16 May 2006 (Quarterly Report). The report was prepared by
Environmental Cost Management, Inc. (ECM), on behalf of Nestle USA, Inc. (Nestle) for the
former facility located at 230 Industrial Avenue, Ripon, California (Site). Based on Regional
Water Board staff review, the Quarterly Report is missing specific information required by
provisions in the Monitoring and Reporting Program No. R5-2005-0829, (MRP) dated 21 July
2005, for the facility. Nestl6 should submit a revised report with the missing information and
if necessary, explanations as to why the information was not included in the Quarterly
Report.
Comments
The laboratory analyses results for volatile organic compounds presented in Table 3 for
Ripon Christian School water supply wells RC-1 and RC-2 are incorrect. The table does not
include the detections of 1,1-dichloroethene (1,1-DCE) in RC-1 and chloroform in RC-2 in
water samples collected on 24 January 2006. In a letter dated 20 April 2006, ECM sent
Ripon Christian School the laboratory analyses reports on volatile organic compounds in
groundwater samples collected on 24 January 2006. The concentration of 1,1-DCE in RC-1
was reported at 0.16 micrograms per liter (pg/L) and the concentration of chloroform in RC-2
was reported at 0.25 µg/L. The 1,1-DCE result should be included in the "Other column of
Table 3; the chloroform result should be substituted for the <0.10 value incorrectly reported
in the "Chloroform" column of Table 3.
California Environmental Protection Agency
d Recycled Paper
