TREADWELL & ROLLO
To minimize the potential for cross contamination between wells, the stainless steel
bailer was thoroughly washed with laboratory detergent (Alconox) and rinsed with
deionized water prior to and after sampling each well. After purging, groundwater
samples from each monitor well were obtained for analytical testing using a clean
disposable, polyethylene bailer. Samples were collected at the air-water interface within
each well.
The bailer was filled several times with groundwater from each well. The contents of
the first filling were used for measuring the temperature, pH, and specific conductance of
the sample. The contents of the second filling were used for volatile organic analyses
and carefully collected and placed in two 40-milliliter volatile organic analysis vials so
that container headspace was eliminated. The contents of the last fillings were used for
the remaining analyses. The total metal samples were filtered and acidified in the lab on
the same day they were obtained. All sample containers were provided by the laboratory
and had been prepared in accordance with the standard procedures for each analysis.
The sample bottles were placed in ice-cooled chests from the time of collection until
their delivery by Treadwell & Rollo to the analytical laboratory. A chain-of-custody
record was completed and accompanied the sample shipment. Copies of the chain-of-
custody records are presented in Appendix B.
All chemical analyses were performed by Curtis & Tompkins, Ltd., a California
Department of Health Services certified analytical laboratory located in Berkeley,
California. The constituents for which these samples were analyzed were determined
based on the preliminary evaluation of the chemical use history at the site and in the
vicinity. The samples obtained on 23 August 1991 were analyzed for some or all of the
following:
6
1107A201.CRJ 5 November 1991
