Mohr-FryRanches <br /> 950 Industrial Drive, Stockton, California May 31, 1995 <br /> Phase III Remedial Excavation Report Page: 2 <br /> 10 Scope of Work <br /> On March 29, 1995, WHF, Inc, in conjunction with SEMCO, Inc , a licensed hazardous <br /> substances removal and remediation contractor, began the first of three (3) remedial <br /> excavations at the Mohr-Fry site (Figure 2) WHF screened soil samples with a portable <br /> PID (photo ionization detector) and logged the lathology of the exposed walls (Appendix <br /> B) using the Unified Soil Classification System (Appendix C) All excavations were <br /> closed by April 6, 1995 <br /> I31 Excavation 1 <br /> Excavation I was in the vicinity of the three (3) former 6,000 gallon surface tanks <br />' MW-3 was left with a protective "island" of undisturbed soil (Figure 4) The <br /> excavation measured 15 feet wide by 30 feet long by 10 feet deep, less the 5 by 9 qm�foot area around MW-3 Approximately 150 cubic yards of soil was removed_ <br /> Wall and fl-or�-samples wcre taken at the direction o rMr Steve asson;�naS <br /> Joaquin County_Public Health_ Sernces,��Envirbnmerital Health Department <br /> (PHS/EHD)All samples from Excavation 1 were non-detect (ND)-for BTEX, <br /> Diesel and Motor Oil <br /> Excavated sods were stockpiled in two 75 yard piles, 5-1-1 and 5-1-2 (Figure 3) <br /> One laboratory sample was taken for each 25 cubic yards (three per pile) and <br /> composited for each pile (Appendix A& Table 1) <br /> The excavation was backfilled with pea gravel to approximately four feet below <br /> the surface and compacted soil was placed to ground level <br /> 3.2 Excavation 2 <br /> Excavation 2 was an over-excavation of the former underground fuel tank <br /> Mremoval The pea gravel backfill was removed from the area of the original <br /> excavation, screened Wath the PID and used to backfill Excavation I The original <br />' excavation was 15 feet wide by 30 feet long by 15 feet deep, or about 250 cubic <br /> yards <br />' The over-excavation resulted in removing an area 20 feet wide, 40 feet long and <br /> 10 feet deep (-300 cu yd ) An additional bottom area of I I feet by 30 feet was <br /> deepened to 15 feet (-61 cu yd ) below ground Ievel (Figure 2) Soil from this <br /> excavating was stockpiled as 5-2-1, S-2-2 and 5-2-3 (Figure 3) The total pat <br />' volume (--361 cu yd ) less the previous pea gravel backfill (-250 cu yd) resulted <br /> in a net soil removal (to the stockpiles) of--111 cu yd , or —37 cu yd per pile <br /> I <br />
