PID monitoring will be conducted in the breathing zones to obtain accurate
estimates of exposure. The PID measures total VOCs and does not usually respond to any
particular substance where mixtures may be present. The PID instrument shall be calibrated and
properly maintained per the manufactures guidelines. Personnel responsible for monitoring shall
review the manufacturer's information prior to use of an instrument to familiarize themselves
with proper operation and limitations. The project air monitoring action levels and equipment
are summarized below.
Air Monitoring Action Levels
Instrument Frequency Action Levels Calibration/Gas
At the beginning of Breathing Zone: Calibrate per
Photo Ionization operations and <5 ppm Level D manufacturers
Detector (PID) before sampling >5 ppm Stop work; Evacuate procedures
& Vent
Monitor every 15 Reevaluate level of protection if PID gas = 100 ppm
minutes if reading levels continue to exceed 5 ppm in Methane
elevated. the breathing zone
HEALTH& SAFETYPLANn H November 2W
TREADWELL & ROLLO,.
