SECTION 4
HEALTH AND SAFETY RISK ANALYSIS
IMPACTED SOIL
Soil sampling results show a concentration of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gas at a maximum
calculated amount of 4,300 parts per million(ppm) All other detectable gasoline constituents were
at levels below 4,300 ppm 1
CVS ti
Generally, soil was found to be impacted at the shallowest depth of 3'I feet and extends to the
lowest measured depth of 76 feet In no location on the site has the constituents of gasoline been 1
found in any soil boring or test pit above 31 feet Accordingly, based on the geological borings
taken from the site,we do not expect to encounter any gasoline or other hydrocarbon impacted soil
from grade to 30 feet below grade
The soil analytical results are summanzed in the Treadwell & Rollo table identified as Table 2, and
is attached to this Health and Safety Plan
3
IMPACTED GROUNDWATER
Groundwater was generally encountered in existing monitoring wells and in soils borings at
approximately 25 feet below ground surface Based on analytical results and the locations of water
bearing zones, it is apparent that two groundwater zones exist beneath the site The shallower
aquifer groundwater is generally located at approximately 20 feet below ground surface, and a
deeper aquifer is encountered between 55 to 60 feet
Groundwater was found to be impacted at relatively high vels of gasoline and its constituents
Total petroleum hydrocarbons as gas vaned from a low of 50. o 91,000 parts per billion (ppb) To
a lesser degree, other gasoline constituents suchTBE,benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and
xylenes, were found at relative concentrations of approximately 2 to 11,000 ppb Kerosene was
generally found in most groundwater samples and varied from 58 to 48,000 ppb It is clear the
deeper aquifer has the greatest level of groundwater contamination
Groundwater analytical results can be found in the attached Treadwell&Rollo Table 3
i
Due to the measured relativQ1O
levels of petroleum hydrocarbons in the soil, it is unlikely that
incidental contact with thisrialon the skin would pose a serious health risk, however, we
recommend direct contact with potentially contaminated soils be avoided All workers and laborers
should use gloves Appropriate personnel protective devices (PPE) will be used dependent on site
conditions
Petroleum hydrocarbons are a family of petroleum based compounds consisting of carbon and
hydrogen A wide variety of branched, straight-chain and ringed structures are possible given the
nature of the way carbon binds to itself and hydrogen Petroleum hydrocarbons exist as solids,
liquids and gasses Some common liquid petroleum hydrocarbons include gasoline, diesel fuel,
fuel,het fuel and kerosene
Health and Safety Plan for F&H Construction
130 North Hunter St, Stockton, CA
Pana 7
