2 0 SCOPE OF WORK
The protect objectives were to further investigate the extent of impacted soil and groundwater,
establish a groundwater monitoring capability at the site, and survey possible sensitive receptors
in the site vicinity To achieve these objectives, four on-site groundwater monitoring wells were
installed, and possible sensitive receptors within 2,000 feet of the site were surveyed
21 Planning and Permitting
Prior to initiating fieldwork, a site-specific health and safety plan addendum was prepared
according to 29 CFR 1910 120 The addendum included safety procedures for work to be
performed, chemical hazard information, and a medical emergency location
To perform the drilling scope of work, monitoring well permits (SR #0030311 and 0030312) were
obtained from PHS/EHD Since two of the wells were installed within the city of Stockton
sidewalk, an encroachment permit (#66825) and a revocable permit (#RP 02-16W) were obtained
from the city Copies of the approved permits are included in Appendix A
At least two working days prior to field work, Ramage Environmental notified PHS/EHD and the
city of Stockton so that any inspections could be scheduled Underground Service Alert was also
notified to complete utility clearance inspections (USA Ticket#299396)
22 Groundwater Monitoring Well Installations
Jul 11 and 12 2002 under the supervision of Ramage Environmental Mitchell Drilling C-57
On y P g g
License#672617) installed four groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2, MW-3 and MW-4)
with a CME-75 drilling rig and 8-inch diameter hollow-stem augers Monitoring wells MW-1 and
MW-2 were installed in the city sidewalk, near the south ends of the former USTs Monitoring well
' MW-3 was located inside the on-site building near the former dispenser island Since the regional
groundwater flow direction was expected to be toward the north-northeast, Monitoring well MW-4
was positioned inside the on-site building approximately 60 feet north of the former dispenser
island The monitoring well locations are shown on Figure 3
' To install the monitoring wells in the concrete surface pavement, Penhall Company saw-cut two
sidewalk squares for MW-1 and MW-2, and drilled two, 12-inch diameter cores for MW-3 and
MW-4 Given the restricted overhead clearance inside the building, Mitchell Drilling advanced the
soil borings for MW-3 and MW-4 with the rig tower down
7
