is
October 6, 2004
NOA Project Number: LE03-034
8.1 General Sampling Techniques
The general sampling technique with disposable bailer is as follows:
—Wear protective gloves.
—Open the well casing and allow the well to equalize with atmospheric pressure for 10
minutes.
—Take a water level reading using a decontaminated well sounder.
—Purge three (3)wetted casing volumes with a disposable bailer. Three (3)wetted casing
volumes in a 2-inch diameter well with 15 feet of wetted casing is about 2.5 gallons.
—Follow well purging procedure, complete form attached to this report for pH, electrical
' conductivity, temperature, and TDS.
—Discard the purge water according to Section 5.0 of this SAP.
—Prepare the appropriate laboratory sample containers with labels and record date, time,
weather, water odor, water turbidity, water depth, and any other noteworthy
observations.
—Fill the laboratory sample container with water from the bailer obtained from the well.
—Label and place samples on ice in ice chest.
—Discard gloves, bailer, and fabric string into garbage bag. These items are non-hazardous
waste and may be discarded in Class 3 landfill.
—Complete notes and secure well.
The general sampling technique with submergible pump is as follows:
—Wear protective gloves.
—Open the well casing and allow the well to equalize with atmospheric pressure for 10
minutes.
—Take a water level reading using a decontaminated well sounder.
—Purge three (3)wetted casing volumes with a disposable bailer.
