GROUND WATER MONITORING WORK PLAN •
DREDGE MATERIAL DISPOSAL SITE 1,ROBERTS ISLAND,PORT OF STOCKTON
• In November 2002, five borings were advanced in Area B between approximately 10.5
feet to 13.5 feet bgs.
• In November 2002 and September 2003, approximately 2.75 tons of lime were
incorporated per acre of dredge materials in Area A.
• In September 2004, an investigation of background ground water quality was performed
at five locations southwest of DMD1.
• In December 2004, six sediment samples collected from three locations were analyzed
for acid generation potential, neutralization potential, and lime requirement.
3. PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK
The proposed approach to characterize the dredge materials, and ground water quality
conditions at and downgradient from DMD1, consists of the following two distinct phases and
associated tasks:
► Phase 1 -Dredge Material and Hydrogeologic Characterization
■ Task 1 -Utility Location, Permitting, and Health and Safety Plan
■ Task 2-Boring Advancement and Sample Collection
■ Task 3-Sample Analyses
■ Task 4-Data Evaluation and Presentation of Findings
► Phase 2-Monitor Well Installation and Quarterly Ground Water Monitoring
■ Task 5-Utility Location, Permitting, and Health and Safety Plan
■ Task 6-Monitor Well Installation
■ Task 7-Quarterly Ground Water Monitoring
■ Task 8-Technical Report
Phase 1 consists of characterizing the dredge materials and hydrogeologic structure.
Specifically, the following grab samples will be collected and analyzed: dredge materials and
associated water, underlying native clay materials, peat materials and associated water, sandy
aquifer materials and associated ground water, and surface water from Burns Cutoff and the
San Joaquin River. The resulting data will be evaluated and interpreted to characterize the
dredge materials and the geochemical hydrogeologic system at and adjacent to DMD1. Phase 2
generally consists of installing monitor wells followed by routine quarterly ground water
monitoring and reporting. Depending on the findings from Phase 1, changes to the monitor
January 2005 Page 7 Environmental Risk Services,Corp.
