10 0
GROUND WATER MONITORING WORK PLAN
DREDGE MATERIAL DISPOSAL SITE 1,ROBERTS ISLAND,PORT OF STOCKTON
wells proposed herein may be provided along with recommendations regarding the four
existing monitor wells at DMD1.
Implementation of this work plan will commence following approval by the RWQCB and when
access to DMD1 is feasible and safe by the required personnel and associated equipment.
Following approval of this work plan, appropriate subcontractors will be contacted, contracted,
and scheduled. All reasonable attempts will be made to schedule the field work as soon as
possible.
All work will be performed under the supervision of a California Registered Geologist, or
California Professional Engineer. All laboratory analyses will be performed by a California
certified laboratory. All drilling and well installation will be performed in accordance with the
California Department of Water Resources Well Standards Bulletin 74-81 and supplemental
update 74-90. The work proposed herein incorporates by reference the standard operating
procedures, protocols, and forms submitted previously in the Groundwater Sampling and Analysis
Plan (Geomatrix, 2003).
3.1 PHASE 1: DREDGE MATERIAL AND HYDROGEOLOGIC CHARACTERIZATION
3.1.1 Task 1: Permitting, Utility Clearance, and Health & Safety Plan
As described below, drilling activities are planned at DMD1. Therefore, appropriate permits for
these activities will be acquired from the San Joaquin County and the City of Stockton.
Underground Services Alert (USA) will be notified to clear the proposed drilling locations for
underground utilities. The proposed drilling locations are contingent upon access limitations
(e.g., site features, utilities) and final locations may be moved to the closest accessible location.
As required by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) 29 CFR 1910.120,
Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Responses, a site Health and Safety Plan (HSP)
will be prepared for use while conducting the proposed field sampling activities. The HSP will
be read and approved by the Project Manager, a Quality Assurance Reviewer, and the On-site
Safety Officers of all subcontractors working at the Site.
3.1.2 Task 2 —Boring Advancement and Sample Collection
Borings will be advanced through dredge materials and agricultural fields using hydraulic
direct-push (e.g., geoprobe) drilling equipment. Prior to beginning drilling, the depth to water
will be measured in the existing monitor wells to identify the likely depth to water within the
dredge sediment materials. This task explains boring methodology, sampling locations; and
sample collection, preservation, and handling procedures.
January 2005 Page 8 Environmental Risk Services,Corp.
